Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). The character Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. Her parents did not allow her to begin acting by her parents until adulthood, as they feared the anxiety it could cause. Perry claimed that she was timid to perform in high school but began performing in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to meet new people after she transferred from Boston University. Perry left for New York, where she landed small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness brought Perry home to California, where theater jobs were readily available. In 2013, she appeared in The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie and Kevin McKidd. This was staged at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was in nine episodes of the ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. Perry played a prominent role in the ABC political drama Scandal which starred her father. In addition, she played in the role of a younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - which is a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. She got the part by auditioning for an open role despite being connected to the character.
